Project Description

FACE

Aging is a complex process which happens all over the body and shows up in different ways in different places. The aging process is compounded by exposures to environmental agents such as smoking and sun exposure. So while there is no way to stop or turn back the clock, there are preventive measures which can significantly affect the ageing process, namely sun screen and smoking cessation.

Skin is the largest organ of the body and is a visible indicator of the ageing process. With aging, there is a loss of skin elasticity, changes to collagen, and thinning of the skin, change in pigmentation, and loss of volume of the subcutaneous fat. All of this may result in thinner skin with wrinkles, and blotchy brown pigmentation.

In the face, the aging process may take on specific features: the development of excess skin of the eyelids, fat bulging on the upper and lower eyelids, loss of cheek fullness, tear trough deformity, deep nasolabial folds, jowls, excess skin of the neck, and platysmal banding. Many of the procedures are designed to address one or more of these issues.

Many facial cosmetic procedures are designed to address changes associated with the aging process and include non surgical, also called minimally invasive procedures, and surgical procedures.
